On 20th of May 2024, the ITF CBA between IHB Shipping and Kiribati Islands Overseas Seamen's Union (KIOSU) was registered with the HQ ITF London and entered into force to employ Kiribati seafarers on board IHB Shipping`s managed ships.
First group joined m/v Antheia on the 5
th of June 2024 in Cadiz, Spain and was followed by another which set foot on m/v Diamond Sky in Callao, Peru on the 15th of June 2024. This is a promising start to a beneficial and successful collaboration. IHB Shipping intends to recruit more competent, experienced and motivated seafarers of this nationality for various positions on all managed ships.
The Republic of Kiribati is an island nation in the central Pacific Ocean with a population of about 120,000 people and English official language. The country is known for its wealth of marine resources. Sailing is a major part of Kiribati's culture. The government actively supports maritime education according to the standards of the STCW Convention and promotes the maritime professions. The established national qualification centre, the Kiribati Marine Training Center (MTC), in partnership with the Government of New Zealand and South Pacific Marine Services (SPMS) has proven itself as a leading maritime educational institution of regional importance.
